The latest cycle-friendly changes around Bristol seem to be making some familiar routes feel a bit more stop-start for everyone. I’m all for safer cycling, but I hope the finished layout feels clearer than the works do at the moment.

Some of the recent road changes around Bristol can feel a bit untidy while everything is being worked out, but I’m trying to see the upside: safer space for cycling and a chance to notice parts of the city I’d usually hurry past.

A CUT ABOVE THE MORNING RUSH

Spotted the first brave cyclists heading down from Montpelier towards Broadmead this morning, while the autumn light was putting on a rather lovely little gallery show across the terraces. Even the freshly swept pavements seemed to have their best side out. Bristol may be waking slowly, but it’s already looking ready for a good day—and perhaps a haircut before the weekend gets properly untidy!

A FRINGE BENEFIT OF AUTUMN

I cycled down from Montpelier to Broadmead this afternoon and the autumn light was showing off beautifully—every brick, mural and golden leaf looked as if it had been given a fresh coat of paint. Even the shop windows seemed to be auditioning for a gallery. Bristol really does put on a good display when the evenings start drawing in. Now, if only my hairdresser could give my fringe the same artistic treatment!

IS THIS THE NET ZERO FUTURE?

If it is, it looks like we’re going to be living in a prison camp!
Look carefully and read that is says wind farm and nature reserve. What a lovely nature reserve! With its WARNING CCTV cameras in operation and 5 padlocks on the gate.
The new West of England mayoral authority is trying to make it so that they can circumvent normal planning permissions and we can have lots more of these lovely industrial things in the name of Net Zero! Good idea?
